Tan Preparation & Aftercare
Tan Preparation

The week before your session

-
Moisturize your skin twice daily with a cream formulation moisturizer, preferably organic.
-
Exfoliate at least TWICE the week prior to your appointment.
-
Use wash cloth or exfoliating gloves with a liquid organic soap.
-
Schedule any waxing, manicures or pedicures at least 48 hours prior to appointment.
Products to Avoid: Dove, Curel, Bath & Body Works, Victoria’s Secret, All Bar Soaps, Retinol or Fruit Acid Products.

The day before the tan

-
Exfoliate your entire body with a non-oil exfoliant or clear body wash using a washcloth or exfoliating gloves.
-
Shave with a brand new razor using hair conditioner.
-
Rub skin briskly with a washcloth or exfoliating gloves during shower, paying attention to ankles, knees and elbows and towel off briskly after shower.
-
Moisturize heavily with a cream formulation moisturizer.

The day of your tan
-
It is best not to shave on the day of your tan.
-
Try to shower at least 2 hours before your tan using just body wash. Apply no products to your skin. No lotions, deodorants or perfumes on your skin.
-
Do not apply body oils, moisturizers, or deodorants to skin after the shower. This can create a barrier on your skin prior to tanning.
-
Tan in under garments, bathing suit, or whatever you feel most comfortable in.
-
Dark, loose-fitting clothing to wear after your spray tan are recommended. Jeans, leggings, or tight yoga-style pants may negatively affect the outcome of your tan.
During Your Tanning Session:
Expectations and requirements

-
Your spray-tanning technician requires a nearby electrical outlet and approximately 5’ x 5’ of space to pop-up the spray tanning tent. Your spray tan may be applied wherever you have space--kitchen, bedroom, garage, family room, etc.
-
Your spray tan session will last approximately 10-15 minutes, plus 5 minutes of drying time.
-
Women may wear (or not wear) whatever makes them comfortable. Men must wear underwear or a bathing suit.
After Your Tan:

For best results
-
Wear dark, loose fitting clothing until after your first shower.
-
Do not apply any products to your skin (powder, lipstick, and mascara are fine).
-
Do not exercise, swim, hot tub, steam room, or sauna. Avoid sweating prior to first shower.
-
Showering should be delayed dependent on your selected spray-tanning solution. If the Rapid solution is applied, we recommend showering 3-4 hours after your tan. If the Regular solution is applied, we recommend waiting 10-12 hours after your tan before showering. Your spray-tanning technician will provide more information on tanning solution types and related aftercare prior to your tanning session.
-
Shower with warm, not hot water. Run your hands down your body until the water runs clear. Pat dry and apply a cream lotion on your body.
-
You may notice some color washing from your skin. This is what is supposed to occur. The cosmetic bronzer in the solution washes off and will leave you with a natural-looking tan.
-
Sleeping with your spray tan overnight (prior to showering) will usually result in a darker shade tan. If you choose to do so, it is recommended that you sleep in pj pants and a tee top to avoid any transfer of the bronzer to the palms of your hands, sheets and bedding, etc.

Maintaining your tan

-
Avoid vigorous rubbing or scrubbing in the shower or when toweling drying (just pat dry).
-
Moisturize twice daily with a cream formulation moisturizer.
-
If swimming or hot tubbing, apply water-resistant sunscreen and rinse with fresh water.
-
SunKissed by Kris spray-tanning solution does not protect your skin from UV light and sun exposure damage. If you are in the sun, a lotion sunscreen is recommended for your skin protection. Spray-on sunscreen should be avoided.
-
If you have a manicure or pedicure planned, nail color change only is recommended (ie. no exfoliation or heavy soaking).
-
The life of your tan depends on the care you take with your skin.
